Brief history of Shōkadō bentō
The Shōkadō Bentō originated in Edo-period Japan (17th century) and was initially created by the monk and artist Shōkadō Shōjō. Inspired by the wooden trays used to carry calligraphy brushes, the compartmentalized design allowed different preparations to be organized harmoniously.
Later, kaiseki ryōri chefs (refined traditional Japanese cuisine) adopted this structure to serve elegant meals at cultural events and tea ceremonies. The goal was to offer diversity, aesthetic balance, and seasonality, while keeping foods separated to preserve their flavors, textures, and temperatures.
Today, the Shōkadō Bentō is regarded as one of the most sophisticated expressions of Japanese culinary presentation —
combining art, functionality, and culinary philosophy.

Every month, you will receive at home a limited-edition gastronomic box, carefully crafted by the chef, following the principles of the modern Shōkadō Bentō: balance, technique, aesthetics, and seasonal respect for the ingredients.
Each box is developed according to the pillars of kaiseki-style omakase — where the customer trusts the chef, and the chef responds with creativity, precision, and cultural depth. Adapted for the domestic setting, the contents of each edition allow you to experience an intimate moment of contemporary Japanese cuisine, with exclusive curation personally signed by the chef.
