Lithodidae é a família de crustáceos marinhos predominantemente dos mares frios, a natureza manteve até a década de 60 esses crustáceos dentro de seu hábitat, no Mar de Okhotsk, nas águas ao redor da Península de Kamchatka e nas ilhas Aleutas, no Pacífico.🌊⠀⠀

Em 1961, cientistas russos soltaram na costa de Murmansk (fronteira da Noruega com Rússia) 2 machos e 9 fêmeas, eles ficaram livre dos seus predadores naturais e desde então se disseminaram livremente pelas águas geladas do norte do planeta.🌏 ⠀

Existem 4 famílias principais desses grandes crustáceos, todas originárias da Ásia. O mais conhecido é o Red King Crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus), e uma das mais raras é o Blue King Crab, (Paralithodes platypus), eles habitam entre 10 e 500 metros de profundidade, podendo viver mais de 25 anos. 🦀 ⠀⠀⠀
Hoje é um dos crustáceos mais consumidos por todo o mundo, porém é um animal com grande valor comercial, chegando à ser comercializado por volta de R$300,00 o kilo.💰 ⠀
